Converter of 3D models of printed circuit boards is a specialized module for obtaining a three-dimensional model of a printed circuit board developed in ECAD systems.

 

The converter allows reading the standardized IDF data exchange format into KOMPAS-3D. The converter works with IDF files that are exported from P-CAD, OrCAD, Protel, MENTOR GRAPHICS, Altium Designer and Cadence Allegro systems. The converter has the ability to form mounting holes in the printed circuit board. A 3D printed circuit board model can be presented both in a simplified form (direct import of IDF files) and in a realistic one. To get a realistic look of the board, users must prepare models of individual components in KOMPAS-3D format in advance or import models from other CAD systems with a little modification.

The text converter is designed to obtain in KOMPAS-Graph formats a list of elements for a schematic specification scheme for products developed in P-CAD, OrCAD, Protel, Altium Designer and Cadence Allegro systems. The received documents fully comply with ESKD and can, if necessary, be finalized using standard KOMPAS-Graph tools.

The converter has the function of generating a list of purchased products per board, and the user can set the number of electrical radio elements for tuning and adjustment, as well as the number in sets. The total number is calculated automatically. The Converter Library also includes the KOMPAS-3D converter – IDF – for exchanging data with CAD electronic systems. The designer can determine in advance the dimensions and contours of the future electronic device (printed circuit board), immediately in KOMPAS-3D determine the installation locations for various mechanical parts on the board, set mounting holes and elements. If the schematic diagram of the printed circuit board has already been developed and the composition of electrical and radio products is known, three-dimensional models of components can be conditionally installed on the board. This information is then transmitted via the IDF format to the ECAD system,
