The concept of performance

 

“Heavy” (large, complex) models in KOMPAS-3D are understood as 3D models of parts and assembly units, when working with which the user feels discomfort in terms of time and speed of KOMPAS-3D response to his actions.

Model complexity is a relative and highly subjective concept, not measured by one specific criterion (for example, only by the number of components in an assembly).

Model complexity is affected by:

  • the number of components in the assembly (both the sum of the total and the number of unique components)
  • number of objects and operations (arrays, mates, etc.) in the Design Tree
  • assembly nesting levels
  • number of executions
  • the number of faces / edges / vertices, i.e. the degree of development of the model
  • complexity of surfaces (the more complex the surface, the more polygons it consists of)
  • model drawing accuracy
  • amount of information about model properties
  • model file structure.

The complexity of a heavy model drawing is affected by the number of views, sections, detail views, etc.

Thus, even one part with complex geometry, curved surfaces and high rendering accuracy will be heavier than an assembly of several dozen simple components.

Increasing the performance in KOMPAS-3D means speeding up the execution of specific processes (reading, rotating and rebuilding the model, building views from the model, generating assembly specifications, etc.). This can be achieved thanks to the special capabilities of the KOMPAS-3D system, as well as by improving the characteristics of the hardware.
